True That!
It is a rightie world...but, I have to say that things have changed some. I have seen mice (?) for computers made for lefties, have been in classes with leftie desks, etc.

My great grandfather was a leftie, but in his day they frowned upon lefties big time, so he was forced to use his right hand. He never stopped fighting those forcing him. Instead he became ambidexterous, a creative genius, and funnier-than-hell practical joker.

But it is true that people don't notice the world around them. As a writer, I do my best to notice everything I can, but even I (yes, Miss Perfect herself) slip up sometimes.

There was one year at Christmas time when my bf and I went to our usual hangout. The owner of the place had this huge (I mean HUGE) Captian Morgan Santa Pirate...and you know what, I didn't notice it was there for damn near a week! And it was right in front of the door! *sigh* I think it's because I know so many people there that when I walk in I am greeted instantly and don't even get a chance to check my surroundings as I am too busy hugging folks and kissing cheeks.

Just goes to show, even though we all try...scratch that...even though MOST of us try to be aware, we all sometimes fail. And we need to keep that in mind before we are quick to judge others.

(I veered so far from my original point that I shall quit here.

It's funny all the things people really DON'T notice
We miss so very much simply by not observing things. It's amazing - we can go throughout our entire lives without noticing a thing about our environment, especially the important stuff.

I wrote a paper on that once....
being a confirmed and lifelong lefty, the subject of handedness and the accomodations needed to survive in a right-handed world have fascinated me for years. School was hell, with those stupid right-handed desks and my writing arm always hanging out in space. Not to mention water-fountains, scissors, and spiral notebooks. And to this day I have trouble with the shake-hands thing, since it's my right hand that is always full of stuff I am carrying, and I have to shift stuff from arm to arm to be able to shake hands "right." That happened one morning at a business breakfast; I was walking to my table with a cup of hot tea in my right hand and I couldn't shift it to shake hands with a guy my host was introducing me to. So I asked him, "Can I shake hands wrong?" and held out my left hand. It was really awkward, since he held out his right hand and we ended up looking like we were holding hands. LOL

You know...
Lefties are the only people in their right minds!

Guess that's why I'm so crazy--I'm right-handed.

Thanks!
I'd add left-handedness to deafness. Darn near nobody notices I'm a southpaw, yet it's a real challenge if you're still in school - all the desks are for right-handed people. ("Southpaw" comes from baseball - if you go to many major-league ballparks and stand on the pitcher's mound facing home plate and the batter, your left hand will be on the south side of the mound.)

I Hear That!

It's the same way with deafness.  So many people have these preconceived notions of deaf people.  There's a Deaf Awareness week, and here in Hawaii, the deaf community has a "Deaf Day" or a "Day of Silence" when whether you are deaf or not, know ASL or not, you cannot speak.  I attended the Deaf Day funtion one year, and it was amazing!  Some people did speak--it was unavoidable, I guess.  But a Deaf man asked me to interpret for him to a telecommunications guy.  I was in my first interpreting class, no experience, but WOW!

I encourage all people to learn more about the world around them, the issues, the non-issues.  You'll be amazed!
