Phil Jackson's Book On The Lakers

I don't know whether the book is out already, but Kobe Bryant seems to come out badly in its pages. If I understand the news reports about it correctly, Kobe is the a**hole in the Bryant-O'neal spat. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Sign in to see full entry.

The New Laker Leader

Reading a news article today from one of our tabloid newspapers intrigued me. It insinuated that with Shaq, Malone, Payton and Derek Fisher gone, Kobe Bryant is now the undisputed leader of the Lakers basketball team. Perhaps it was not an insinuation but a statement of fact. However, when I recall... Sign in to see full entry.

Change of Title -- Lawrence and My Mom

I am changing the title of this blog to reflect a more generalized interest in sports. The NBA hiatus is killing me! I turn to look at our own basketball circles and I can come up with nothing really of interest, especially that the University of Sto. Tomas Tigers basketball team wasn't able to... Shot To Glory

The Coliseum is filled to the rafters with fifteen thousand spectators wildly cheering. It is the day when all expectations will find their answers. The Red Bulls are gunning for their second championship in a row, but the Cinderella team -- San Pedro Knights -- intend to spoil it. The game has been... Sign in to see full entry.

Three Filipinas Among The Laker Girls

I couldn't believe my eyes, at first but there they were... Philippine StarWeek, Philippine Star's weekly magazine, featured the picture of six Laker girls on its cover. These were the ones who came over to the Philippines for NBA Madness -- Manila. Two of the girls looked Filipina so I checked the... Sign in to see full entry.

Basketball-Crazy

Here is a photo that illustrates well how Filipinos love basketball. The photo was taken during one of my recent trips to the more depressed area of our parish. Notice the match-ups between the no-shirts and with-shirts. The boys live in an area people laughingly refer to as "Home Along The Railway"... Sign in to see full entry.

Shaq

I just got back from browsing through Shaq O'Neal's personal website www.shaq.com. I must say I was mighty impressed by his achievements. Shaq was born in 1972 -- that makes him 10 years and a few months younger than I am. But wait, at age 24 he was already named one of the fifty greatest players of... Sign in to see full entry.

Bryant Case Dropped

Kobe Bryant's case is dropped with no possibility of being re-filed. Below are excerpts of some reports and the links relevant: Kobe Bryant Case Collapses: A US judge has dismissed the case against basketball star Kobe Bryant, after prosecutors dropped sexual assault charges against him. "This... Sign in to see full entry.

The GlobeTrotters and Seventy-Five Funny Years

The Harlem Grotters' seventy-fifth anniversary show will be aired on cable TV next month. I look forward to watching it. I remember the first time I saw the GlobeTrotters at the Araneta Coliseum when I was a kid. My father brought us to watch the GloteTrotters play. I was about four years old then,... The Best Guards Ever!

I doff my skull cap to these NBA guards: Michael Jordan (for obvious reasons) Magic Johnson (for making the 80s a remarkable NBA decade) John Stockton (for the consistently best passing shows ever) Jerry West (for his consistent heroics) Earl "The Pearl" Monroe (for bringing something similar to the...
