Maybe we have evolved and that's the answer

My precious lambs, Here's the thought I had today about the story of 12 apostles. Maybe humans used to have 12 fingers. That would answer a lot of questions. 12 inches, 12 apostles, 12 donuts, 12 months, and 12 astrological signs. Not that the authors of the bible had 12 fingers, that's too recent...
