Something old by someone else, and something new yet old from me.

http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/johnmcnab5912/241167 From early in our own Dunesifter's tenure "here". California of course had its own mining era, the gold rush of 1849 which basically breathed its last in 1942 when the WWII order was writen: shut 'em down. All gold mines were shut (pretty... Our fourth day under 85 degrees since Mid July.

Brisk, dry cooler breezes, a blue sky ovegead with pale dusty horizons marred here and there by smoke. At one point, I hear the sandhill cranes, but it is too early for them! The honeybees and wasps are dying off for the good of the hives over winter, buckeyes have thrown off their leaves to reveal... Sign in to see full entry.

"Amortizing the patio"

Now that the worst of summer is past (probably) I am spending more time in the backyard we created (well, paid for) in the early AM and near sundown on my days off. I tell my long-suffering spouse "I'm going out back to amortize the yard!" then sit and watch the birds, listen to the traffic a half... Sign in to see full entry.

See prior entry and my new blog.

http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Accounts/BlogSource.aspx?blog=majroj5047 I'm even contemplating dropping the Courier typeface...why can't I get that as default?? Sign in to see full entry.

It's Darwinian, sort-of.

If you micro-manage, you lose your employees with initiative. If you lose your employes with initiative, you are left with camouflage artists (if your work requires decision making). Camouflage artists make mistakes but try to shift blame, unless they can dodge it entirely by letting people with... Sign in to see full entry.

Suddenly others are reading my blog again. How odd!?

I wonder if that makes further entries mandatory? I have an idea, more on it later, my minor illness (a cold) permitting. Oh, and thank you!! Sign in to see full entry.

Here's the latest harebrained idea...

Lay off all the union members and rehire those they want, non-union, as 0.904 time employees to cut benefits but allegedly allow more positions to stay open. How many administrators do you think will be let go, and how many of their office leases will be cancelled? I'm going Bolshie, I tells ya! Sign in to see full entry.

I'm tired.

Not a promising opening line but it's true. On the first of my three days off, besides running errands I also volunteered for then gave two classes, twelve hours apart, to my cohorts on the other rotation. Yesterday, not much except having to take the car in to the dealership to replace a headlamp.... Sign in to see full entry.

Wow, thanks for all the comments! Let me toss some more info about it all out. Reading my backpages, I was ready to take a VISTA position in Spring of 2007, and ready to retire that summer. Pay would have been lower, and a bigger loss would be my benefits. When I leave, I will lose my free $15,000... Sign in to see full entry.

I cannot believe it.

After all this time, all this saving and neurotic fear of being fired, I sat down and did the math and consulted the worksheets. I am being required to work four hours of overtime (that is, over eighty hours every two-week pay period). Minus that money, with just my civil servant retirement alone, I...
