2008 Dr. No Versus Dr. Strangelove

Tuesday morning - short week - feels like Monday to me! Baby Chel was home for the weekend from college. She went to the funeral of a club member from last year's sophomore class. Drowned in Saylorville Lake. Very sad. She had a high school chum sleep over and they watched movies and ate Chili's... Sign in to see full entry.

too hot to sleep, too hot to fish...

Nights like this make me regret ever having given up beer. But out here in the back yard the cicadia and locusts provide a wall of harmony, and the highway waxes and wanes of sonorous rhythms and stacatto. Sirens wailed for over an hour all over the neighborhood. We have the air con off and all the... Sign in to see full entry.

CULTURE SHOCK A REAL DILEMA AMONG AMERICAN IMMIGRANTS' CHILDREN

Take 2 Unfortunately the children laugh at him when he speaks. He has a bit of a different accent, and so they play it up. He laughs along with them, but secretly he is mortified. I have scolded the children, and together we have discussed people's differences and the polite way to be accepting of... Sign in to see full entry.

CULTURE SHOCK A REAL DILEMA AMONG AMERICAN IMMIGRANTS' CHILDREN

Yesterday as I sat by the window in front of school witing on my blackberry, a fight was taking place somewhere around the block - on the bus. Of all my new students, perhaps the newest, and the most at-risk, is a little boy from Iraq. We have sixty Iraqi families this year, and I have one of them.... Sign in to see full entry.

I got up in plenty of time to catch the early bus, 5:56. But I walked out to the bus stop without my ID badge so I missed the second bus. I caught the 6:30 bus finally and mad it to school by 7:15. That's not early, but it's not late. My day was whirlwind as usual. The downtown school closed its... Sign in to see full entry.

Blogger Stays in Touch Via Blackberry Technology

I can't help believing that it is the blackberry technology that has kept me in the blogging game at all. When I get a chance to sit at the home computer is maybe once a week. At school all my time is spent taking attendance and other school-related functions. Yet, this week I have posted nearly a... Sign in to see full entry.

another Bike Ride - But Today I'm Healthy!

Since my last bike ride a month ago I've gone on Tricor to ease the high triglyceride level, and lost five pounds. I rode to Dave's and we cruised down to Grays Lake and back. It was only twenty miles but it wore me out. And the weather! Oh what a beautiful day. Now my baby is home from her first... Sign in to see full entry.

First Day of School, I'm On the MTA with Ashley

I missed the first bus @ 5:56, due to the construction across the street at the mall. Then I stood in the rain fingering my exact change, six quarters. I got on the bus and before the driver could stop me I put my six quarters in the change thing. As a teacher I RIDE FREE. So, yep, going green.... Sign in to see full entry.

U.S. Olympic Girls Excell and Advance in Beach Volleyball

Talk about packing enjoyment into a short time! I woke up at 5 30 PM, waiting for me was baby Chelsea, straight from the superstore. USA WOMEN DEFEAT JAPAN IN SOCCER, ER, FUTBOL! Yay!

Sleepless again, I watch my first soccar match the entire way through. The USA women did us proud with teamwork, fundamentals and PMS-intensity defense. I was entranced. The Japanese wpmen looked like men, and I had to rely on faiith that they weren't. I thought of glancing at their buttocks to... Sign in to see full entry.
