DVD review Déjà vu

Melding science fiction into a believable framework usually doesn’t work. At some point, usually early on, one has to suspend one’s disbelieve in such things as time travel and other mind-bending phenomena. In Déjà vu, you know from previews and clues that some weird stuff is going to happen.... Sign in to see full entry.

Christmas Eve Thoughts

Well, it is a white Christmas here as you can see out the window past the tree. Part of having a white Christmas was finding a car in the ditch yesterday morning in front of our house. When I called 911, no one had turned it in and no one was in the car so my assumption is they were drinking and... Sign in to see full entry.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas

Only it’s a nightmare! People are traveling over snow slickened roads, some are becoming involved in accidents and slide-offs. My son and his girlfriend are currently en-route to our house, a trip that usually takes an hour. The roads are covered with white ice, black ice and it is snowing hard so... A PC holiday song.

Frosty the snow person Had a button nose and two eyes made out of coal. It was not clear whether they were bituminous or anthracite but since they were intended for decoration rather than combustion they could in no way add to the earth’s atmospheric carbon load nor contribute to acid rain in any... Eagle eye photo

The past week there have been at least a half dozen Bald Eagles feasting on a deer carcass 500 feet from my house. Had I been using a film camera, I would be broke by now paying for processing. As it is, I finally got a shot I really liked. I still had to crop and manipulate its resolution so it... Sign in to see full entry.

I ain’t no Martha Stewart…but

It’s dusting time, you know, relatives are due for Christmas and the house must be cleaned, or at least presentable. Currently I am taking a break from my cleaning duties, one if which is the bane of all housepersons (terribly politically correct, but also horribly accurate these days), dusting.... Opinions on opinions

Arguments generally prove nothing. Case in point – my last post where I debated a very strong case why we should not have the death penalty. The problem is, the death penalty is a moral issue. Moral issues are by their nature very personal, either you’re morally opposed to something or you’re not.... Sign in to see full entry.

Experimental opinion

The death penalty, an argument against it? Ok, I am reading an Op-ed piece in the Sunday, Dec 9, 2007 Spokesman Review by Jonathan V. Last titled, Fight the Death Penalty on Moral Grounds. Usually, one would read the article, digest it, then form a response. But this time, I am going to read the... Sign in to see full entry.

Digital photography rules!

Waiting to see how your pictures turned out is a thing of the past. Some of you may not know that in the old days, cameras contained film. The film had to be protected from light when loading into the camera and then had to be sent or taken to a lab to be developed and printed. The good, the bad and... Sign in to see full entry.

The 60s... a wasted time

Drugs set the 60s apart for a lot of people. It was only one of the defining elements of the time, at once the best and worst of the era. A lot that came out of that time was thought to be the voice of the drugs, kingpins of rebellion. Further examination shows serious forces at work. For instance... Sign in to see full entry.
