Arrowhead (a poem)

Arrowhead, Tucked between two remote controls (pieces of plastic that control my evenings and some peoples’ lives) you look so out of place: Chipped flint, cutting edges with a rounded heart. Relic of the earth when man was a child of the dirt and trees and running water. Were you a product of war... Sign in to see full entry.

Let Me Tell You How to Make Something Good

Alright, this was an impromptu dish but turned out pretty good: Brown ground beef and onions in olive oil. Add a bunch of cumin, shake the hell out of the bottle. Add some cayenne pepper flakes...shake it till your nose burns. Drain Greece then add a can of rotel and a can of drained red kidney... Sign in to see full entry.

The Battle of Franklin and Thoughts on the Civil War

In 1830 Fountain Branch Carter built a modest brick home on the outskirts of the young village of Franklin, Tennessee. With the help of three sons, the sweat of slaves, and the fertile ground of the Harpeth River watershed he built a prosperous cotton farm. On the afternoon of November 30, 1864 all... Notes From Transcendental Heros

29 October 2008 “I learned this at least by my experiment, that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams & endeavors to live the life which he has imagined he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” – Thoreau No truer words were ever spoken or written. Even in the... Sign in to see full entry.

Refections On Seasons and Fishing and Grandparents

Its coolish today, one of the first cool days of the coming winter. The high will be about 50, overcast with a bit of wind. Tonight will go down into the upper 20’s and though I’m not planning on doing much today I may go in and help Pam get the frost cloth over the pansies. Those hardy little... Pretty Girls, Sobriety, and Trees

In case you were wondering what she looks like above is a picture of the much vaunted Ashleybelle, obviously caught in mid-sentence but you see there was merit behind my smittenness. Unfortunately there is merit in her non-refusal to go out with me: age, drunkenness, etc. which has finally persuaded... Sign in to see full entry.

An American Day

Had a pretty big day today. I was off from work so after checking the lottery and seeing I had not won I dressed in my new overalls and went down to the nursery where I work and picked up five seven gallon schellings dwarf yaupon hollies for Mrs. F. I like to get these side jobs and I knew she’d... Sign in to see full entry.

An Insight Into Ashleybelle & Depression (pic included)

Well, I had the hot wings and a good time Saturday night. Perhaps the best was when Ashleybelle gave me some chocolate covered coffee beans and said to let her know if she got any residue from them stuck in her teeth. I told her I'd giver her the toothpick from my Swiss army knife but she told me I... Sign in to see full entry.

Low Key Saturday

Last night turned out like so many others: sitting in a couple of my local bars too long, too late, too drunk and when the sun rose on this beautiful fall day I wasn’t in any shape to do the things I meant to do today which was work on my sculpture and watercolours under the influence of Rodin. So... Sign in to see full entry.
