Countdown to Christmas – 6 December

Santa’s looking high and low For the tiniest sign of snow He looks left and he looks right But not a single flake's in sight And only 18 days to go No wonder Santa’s worried. Today has been the warmest December day for many a year -- sunshine and all of 9 o C (48 o F). Global warming? Not that I’m... Sign in to see full entry.

Countdown to Christmas – 5 December

What’s behind the door today? Hmmm, that's what I'll have for lunch tomorrow. Chicken salad with a topping of chopped roasted walnuts. A nice nutritious lunch for a change, full of fibre and Omega-3 and all the cholesterol-lowering stuff. I feel like a new person already. And what’s behind your door... Sign in to see full entry.

Countdown to Christmas – 4 December

Now let’s take a look behind today’s door … That reminds me I have to finalize my wish list. We have our own weird tradition within the family -- we each write down a list of items we would like Santa to bring, and leave it under the pillow. The lists will mysteriously disappear on the 2 nd Sunday... Sign in to see full entry.

Today is the First Sunday of Advent which signals the start of the Christmas festivities. I eagerly open the second door in my Advent calendar which reveals an Advent candelabra. I have one on every windowsill and as I look across the street I see one standing in every window in every house. Days... Sign in to see full entry.

Countdown to Christmas – 1 December

The dreary month of November is finally over. I must admit it was over somewhat faster this year than the year before and the year before that. Perhaps it is a sign of age creeping (and creaking) up on me. An Advent Calendar is a must in our family. The day has finally arrived to open the first door... Sign in to see full entry.

Little Miss Touch-Me-Not

I’m trying to help a colleague climb out of her shell. She is a nice soft-spoken person who doesn’t give anybody any trouble and always has some excuse or other for not joining us for social activities. Her desk is immaculately tidy (compared to mine which looks like a battlefield) and she works... Sign in to see full entry.

Why can’t men cook simple food?

I often wonder why men have to prove they are better than us ladies when it comes to making food. It was hubby’s turn to cook the other evening and voila … his version of Tournedo Sabatini. I told him it was quite good and he was very pleased. (Actually, between you and me, it was excellent.) The... Sign in to see full entry.
