It's a problem when, in fact, those buttons are being pushed inadvertantly, but to the 'pushee' it seems like a deliberate attempt to hurt. Sure, plenty of people are that rude, especially within families where buttons are well-known and power-games are rife. Then, the only way to win, as the saying goes, is not to play.

Yes--What we learn in childhood goes in so deep we think it's how it's 'supposed to be.' Take that damaged/mistaught child and multiply it by all the similarly dysfunctional families, and you get a self-justifying tribal mentality.

What about family if one is brought up in a way that has no respect for each.
Would it not be likely that the same mode of non-respect for siblings filter through in future involvement. Just one way.

These are all excellent points. I normally do not behave in a rude manner to other people, but when someone continues to push your buttons, it is time to let them know that enough is enough.
