For twelve years, I worked in a 'bad neighborhood' where robbing, raping, stabbings, and shootings were the norm. I was at over seventy-five murder scenes and on the scene of at least nine of them when they occurred. You never get used to it, you just get numb. As Pink Floyd sang, you get Comfortably Numb.
