I have already started cooking for Xmas. Guess that's why my kids and grandkids have been showing up on a regular basis

So many memories. My mom could have done several episodes on design on a dime for the holidays.

OOoo, pecan pie is one of my favorites... but I will be making a cheesecake and saving the pecans to go on the candied sweet taters.
I had a sister, but we were toxic to each other, and did not interact for over 30 years. No regrets there. But my step-sister and I have never gotten along better than since we became the last living members of our family.
I wish we could be together for the holidays, but it's not to be. Not this year. But we'll be in touch!

what a great idea to be able to get the main dish cooked for you. In Greece The local baker will cook your whole meal if you take it to them. Roast with vegetables around it in a dish and then tell you when to come and collect it.

Re: Goldiec
I had to look it up in my Betty Crocker cookbook. I've had second thoughts - I don't think my sons like it, so I may skip it unless the deli dept at the grocery store where I'm picking up the meal they're making for me has it available. I'm thinking of an apple salad instead with dried cranberries & chopped walnuts. I know I'll enjoy leftovers from that if there are any.

Pat, I have always loved Christmas. It's such a fun time of year! I love being with my family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have so many December birthdays and that is always fun. If I had to pick something that I loved to do during the holidays I would have to say watching the Christmas lights. The ones on the houses, on everybody's tree, and always on our tree. I believe they are so beautiful and signify the beauty of the holiday spirit. I've loved them for as long as I can remember.

I bet that your cranberry relish is delicious.
Your day will be blessed by your visit with your children. My favorite Christmas memories are not from my childhood but from my three daughter's childhood. Christmas became a really big deal for me once I experienced their joy. I love a good dinner, complete with spiral ham, but family time is always the best part. We will be having four different pies and one cheesecake this year. Our small group is supplying the various dishes to make our meal complete. Sadly, my parents are in Nevada, my siblings are in Delaware, Massachusetts, and Virginia, so we will have to celebrate via the telephone. Happily, we get to watch our grandchildren's excitement this year as they open their gifts.
