One of the biggest joys of life for me has always been learning new things, travelling to new places, pushing myself out of my comfort zone and gardening is like that every year.

I used to raise a big garden, squash, cucumbers, Kentucky Wonder

pole beans - the vines grew up a tripod I set up in the garden. Beans grew up the three poles that were tied together at the top in a kind of tipi. Then zuccini vined on the ground around & under them. Also tried strawberries, which the squirrels and birds enjoyed very much.

Re: Sea Gypsy,

Good time to stock up on canned and dried goods!  We have a freeze-drier and have accumulated quite a lot of packets of meats, vegies, and fruits.

Re: sassyass,

Yes, this day would be ideal if it were not for the jackhammer hard at work down the street. I haven't looked at what they are working on, but we do have some really lumpy sidewalks around here.

Re: CCT,

Yes, we have had a few hard frosts now, and all the leaves are crisp and brown. The maple still looks like corn flakes, but the lilacs are just sad.

Re: Goldiec,

Thank you!

I tried lettuce this year, but it never got to a stage where it was ready to add to a salad. Maybe I'll try again next year.

I enjoyed this post. I would like to stock up today but I don’t know if I will have a kitchen functioning until later.

70 is the perfect temperature for me.

I used to live in a warmer state, but I am now getting used to the cooler winter temps. gardening and herbs are a favorite hobby of mine, but after that night's frost, my peppers, tomatoes, and flowers are done for the year. I brought my herbs indoors two weeks ago. I am crossing my fingers that they make it.

It is that time of year Ciel. One hard frost and everything will look a complete mess.I really hate having to clear all the old plant life. We buy bins from the council and fill them with green waste or tree prunings etc. I try not to put rubbish in as the end product goes on to the land.

Ciel, I love reading your posts!  It's warming up slowly here today.  It was so cold this morning.  When I was reading about your garden plants and your zucchini it made me miss my zucchini.  It's my all time favorite vegetable.  I could eat it every day and never get tired of it. I do have some zucchini from the garden in the freezer to make this winter. I know celery is very easy to grow from the root.  That's what Roy did this year.  We use both seeds and plants.  Do you plant lettuce?  We plant it in trays.
