Oh, I would never want to return to when I was 18 or 19. Those were miserable years for me.

Going back to a time of innocents is an ideal notion.

I love anything Italian, and I love history. The Renaissance was a really unique time in our world.

Pat_B, I think you are spot on with your post.  The world has not learned the lessons.  We keep making the same mistakes over and over again.  Now we are in the middle of another Pademic which is a very sad thought.

Kabu, I was also born in the country.  We lived with my Grandparents on the side of a mountain.  We had everything we ever needed on the farm.  I can remember going with my Mom to the fruit cellar to get whatever canned vegetable she needed for dinner.  To this day I always remember the smells in the fruit cellar.  It seems like it was a damp smell. You would open up doors and walk down steps so It must have been like a basement but you would enter from outside.  It's funny how smells bring back memories.  If my Grandma wanted eggs she would just go outside and get some that were freshly laid and if she wanted to make chicken she would go outside and get one.  She made the best-fried chicken ever.  I was so young but I never heard talk of war.  I guess that was for the outside world. I was such a gentle soul and loved everyone.  My cousins would visit the farm and we would play for hours.  I know there was turmoil in the world but I'm glad I never knew about it.  To this day I think everyone should grow up like this.  When we moved to Cleveland I never lost my peaceful demeanor but over the years I learned how to take care of myself.  City life is different than country life but I've found I love them both equally but I do not like the way the world is changing now. Kabu your young life sounds wonderful!

It seems like the world has lost its innocence. I hope it can return.

"Civilization" has been going for - according to recorded history and the

Old Testament - at least 6,000 years. In all that time I'm guessing there has not been even a twenty year cycle when there has not been war, rumors of war, corruption in any government we could name, inhumanity and mutually hostile and suspicious cultures.  We haven't learned the "simple" concept of live and let live, be kind to our neighbors, love our enemies.  We've heard the lessons, we just haven't learned them.
