welcome back...was concerned when you hadn't posted for a while...drugs rob of us our loved ones, minds, money, life and in spite of all that they still continue to exist and be a lucratie form of income for the shady ones who don't care

Re: TAPS Question

Good question. I had my first two books published by a more main stream company, but their time frames were nuts. I'd be old and dead before some of my stuff ever gets out if I continued to follow them. I've gone to Amazon's Create Space to do my stuff now. I can format my own books, add my own covers, and buy my own copies for about $3 each. Some people look down on self publishing, but I've found a steady market for my books. It took me a week to figure out what they wanted the first time, but now I can format a 28,000 story in about two hours, have my partner do the cover while I am doing the formating, upload everything and have it available in both Kindle format and a paperback within 14 hours.

As to 'deadlines,' I make my own. It's kind of the main reason I write here. If I feel 'pressure' to post something daily, I write more consistently. If I put a deadline on myself when I will finish a book, I am driven to finish on that designated point in time. This summer has been hectic for many reasons: my move, my career changes, my unexpected month long sabbatical to do some research, and a number of personal family situation.

Despite all of that, I've managed to get several good story ideas down on my hard drive. I've been blessed with a very active imagination and my 'life expereinces' have been beyond the normal and it frequently wander into the odd parts of the world. Once I have the first 750 to 1500 words, my brain generally just takes off and I write. I'm unburdened by a job or many other things people have to worry over.

In college, I was editor of three different college newspapers, but to get there, I had to be a reporter. I was given a story line and a word count to hit. It was my job to write a story that fit the word count and I was able to do that on a steady basis. I still get emails from a couple local newspapers to ask if I can 'whip out a story' of say 635 words (column inches are everything!) and have it back to them in about an hour. I'm known as the guy who can write about anything on a deadline. I don't paid a lot, but I do get paid!

If you have more questions, just let me know and I'm more than happy to elaborate!

Just curious--my son works for a publishing company and he has told me a lot about the business these days.  Do you make contracts with a company for what books to write and for the amount of time to write it?  Son's boss just wrote a book coming out in November (God and Donald Trump) and he was given six weeks to write the book.  He took off the time from work and spent the whole six weeks concentrating on writing the book.

Thank you

I thought about this place a lot, but I was doing 'homework' for a cause. Thanks for your words!

Glad to hear you are okay and excited to hear about the new book. The seedy side of drugs isn't always apparent when one isn't right there in it.
