Re: CCT,

The crazy weather extremes we have had lately haven't made it easy on these chicks. Between snow and wind and cold, delicate ones are out of luck.  Parent doves provide 'crop milk' only until the chicks leave the nest and begin to eat seeds. So, only for about two weeks.

Re: TAPS,

Interesting idea... and now the story might have a twist, too. I will blog about that in a little while.

A long time ago, there was a children's book about birds in the spring and how when the mother bird was making the nest, she found some toilet paper or tissues and lined her nest with that.  Then when a late snow came it made a soggy mess in the nest.  What it made me think was how neat it would be if you wrote a children's book, and illustrated it, about what you are doing.

Yes it must be a traumatic time for young birds I hope the parents feed the young one for a while. Snow looks grand but it aint cotton wool .

The lilacs are lovely. I could do without the snow, tho.

I often wonder about the birds - how they keep warm/dry in this stuff. I remember mom telling me you can tell if it's going to rain all day because the birds (also chickens) will stay out in it and eat. But if it's a short shower, they'll stay tucked in.
