That's a buggeruter with the pipe. When we had a bad winter about 4 years ago a lot of central heating pipes that took water away from the gas heaters froze. I was worried about that when my old system cracked up . The engineer said the system does not freeze now as something is incorporated inside the pipe. Of course I don't know to what degree it succumbs. It is not heated I know that. Maybe it is lined with some unique protective system. Alright I know you are fed up reading this have a glass of wine.
