Re: FormerStudentIntern.

Some people just don't have a real clue what suffering is. I have heard a lot of Trump supporters use this line, but clearly they have not thought it through.

People who spend most of their waking time feeling put-upon, feeling sorry for themselves... they simply have not compared what makes them unhappy with what makes, say, a mother watching her children starve, or a child who has no place to live when their parents have been killed and their house bombed, feel unhappy. There are some kinds of suffering we have the power to amend, if we will do it.

I believe that the Facebook friend was either being dramatic or used a poor choice of word. The way I see it, many people have not suffered under Obama. So the friend is either not grounded in reality or used "suffering" as a way to express that he disagrees with those things. For instance, social conservatives are not happy with how much progress gays have made over the years.

Now maybe the friend is underemployed or getting paid a poor wag so the low unemployment may not be seen as some sort of victory. One could say that he is suffereing that way. However, the reasons underemployment have to do with decades of policy and changes in the economy that is not fair to blame one president soley for it.

I didn't agree with all his decisions but no matter the circumstance the man and his family showed great restraint, politeness, integrity, coolness and set a great example of what a family can be even when in the hot seat of the white house

Re: TAPS,

Yes, I didm't agree with all his decisions, but I admired them as a wholesome, functional family, a great model for America.

I don't feel like I suffered.  I kind of liked having the cute little couple around.  I miss them.
