I have trouble with mosquito bites also. Have had to be treated medically as they get infected. Here they occasionally bomb us with insecticide during mosquito season because of West Nile Virus.  Mosquitoes don't like marigold, they say, nor do they like geranium. I have heard that is why you see the pots with geraniums on window sills throughout parts of Europe. Can't vouch for the veracity of that info, though! Beautiful pix.

Two things...

I used to think that if a creature exists on Earth, it is part of the whole, and has some useful purpose. I was wrong: it simply needs not to have a negative quality that gets it wiped out by natural selection. As for the use of mosquitoes, they are if nothing better, a vector for disease that puts limits on human population.

Second... there is a chart somewhere online that shows the effectiveness of various insect repellents according to when applied, and several hours later. The Avon product works, but not for very long.

I was aware about that with mosquitos. That is why some people advocate wiping them out completely.

TAPS

I've been on every conceivable type of vessel but two: submarines and kayaks. I really must eliminate one of those from that list soon - and it will be the kayak! And when I'm in the woods with Bennie, I usually carry a short branch of something (cedar works well) and keep 'flagellating' myself with it - and I haven't been bitten by a mosquito in a long time...

I don't suppose I should worry too much about the Zika virus,

since I'm beyond the birthing stage (way beyond), and they mostly ignore me even while folks around me are being chomped. Love the pics from Alaska...

I am really enjoying being outside at the moment. Before the mosquitoes start. Even here they are huge and vicious but they tell us that it is too cold here for the Zika carrying mosquitoe to survive. More likely to get it in Australia I think.
