There is progress - more and more people are becoming aware and making sure they are heard, thanks in part to Facebook and to those who, like you, state the case clear and simple so that one has no choice but to hear and understand how this is wrong.

I understand your viewpoint but I also see how much this contribute to our knowledge of ocean life....Not sure how they could make it more conducive for them to move about...maybe they could build a whale cove or something..

Re: Pat,

It is an issue of proportion, I think: you can put little tropical fish on an artificial, contained reef and they are probably content. But to put a large, intelligent, emotionally sensitive whale in an itsy bitsy portion of an ocean... Imagine being in a single room your whole life, even a big one by most human housing standards!

Re: Naut,

I was thrilled to see dolphins up close, and touch them, and orcas... before I understood the problem and realized what goes on behind the scenes. But I still love a fantastic, well-ordered aquarium! https://flic.kr/s/aHsk7RdQMA

Re: FormerStudentIntern.

It seems only the bottom financial line will change their old attitudes.

Re: CCT

The zoos used to be like the old Cleveland, Ohio zoo: jail for animals with small barred enclosures where they could be looked at, pacing around or sleeping or being fed. Nothing like the habitats and enrichment that are typical now.  Gorillas used to be kept in individual enclosures like that, and there was a sad statistic about how many new mother gorillas killed their infants. When someone got the bright idea to put them in community enclosures, that stopped: Gorilla mothers needed more experienced gorilla mothers to help them deal with new motherhood. Isolation is bad for human new mothers, too.

Re: TAPS,

Actually, I posted it on Facebook where a lot of people can see it.

I hope you actually sent this to an appropriate person(s) at Seaworld.

Sea World is doing a lot of horrible things.

I suppose it is like the way Zoo's were in the begining, public opinion could change the profit factor eventually.

I have no problems with aquariums (aquaria, LOL) as long as they hold only fish! But I am totally oppoised to those who keep Dolphins, Orca or any other mammals...

I've never been to Sea World, but I have enjoyed large acquariums

like the one in Newport Beach, Oregon that is run by the university. I remember there being a site there where the Orca from "Free Willy" was housed for a time, and it seems to me public opinion eventually got them to release that one.
