Re: CCT,

The public transport system isn't as extensive as he would need it to be, but he does take a bus back from the call center, except on Saturday when that bus doesn't run.

I have used chains, but they are a bloody nuisance to put on and off.  They would have been perfect for yesterday's situation, though.

Re: FormerStudentIntern.

Oddly, for a city prone to snow, there are not many snow plows, and they don't do more than sand the main and some side streets, while the smallest streets they don't bother to do anything.  I worry about sliding into other cars, parked or not.

Re: Annicita,

The key to safety is a more-traveled route with less snow on it, and above all, a more level route!

Re: Kabu,

I wrote up a few words about it to post the warning in facebook and twitter both, and got a reply back from the professional traffic trackers that this intersection is a known hazard that had been reported earlier, too.  I wondered if that was reported by one of the people who didn't hit us.

Re: Pat, thanks!

We're glad to be okay!  I'm glad you made it intact to the field, though I imagine it was a matter of some bother to get back out of it!

Years ago we used to put chains on the wheels they used to clank a bit but I can't remember skidding. Do be careful, isn't there any public transport that Charlie could use on such treacherous days. For his safety as well as yours. Ordinary tires are a killer Ciel on hardened snow.

We had snow today where I am at. Outside of going to my mother's house about four miles away and the nearby grocery store, I was able to stay home. I could have gone to my volunteer job. However, it is on a narrow street, and I did not want to take a chance of a snow plow crashing into my truck or burying it in snow.

I was in a near miss situation like that once, also avoided direct contact

but ended up in the field across the road. I'm glad you're all ok.

Ciel

Whew! I'm glad nothing happened! I trust you do have proper winter tires on your truck?
