Coffee seems to have had a big jump being milk is so cheap. Crikey one cannot move for coffee shops here. I still like tea though made properly milk no sugar. Goats milk is 1.50 a pint as opposed to poor cows milk 6 pints.

Re: Taps
Well even now Taps the big units are beginning to use robot driving tractors, so it will want more technical chaps than farm laborers in the future,

I sometimes try to work out what things cost relative to the wages.
When I first took a full-time job the minimum wage was 95 cents an hour, but the phone company started entry level mailroom clerks at $1.05. A cup of coffee in the cafeteria was a nickel, a bowl of soup cost a quarter, sandwich 35 cents. So if you were extravagant and bought your lunch at 75 cents without dessert - you worked 3/4 of an hour to pay for it. Now the minimum wage is about $8 an hour and soup & sandwich lunch at the Panera's is about $6.75. The big diff. is that a Starbucks coffee is more than $2 for regular, and there's no free refill.

I never know which part of your writing to address. The poem and the writing both have very different thoughts to offer, and I like them both. I must say that farmers of anykind, dairy or other, work very hard for any kind of recompense that they receive.

Re:
Jimmy I always regret not buying a cottage £200 , but as you say it was at that time. Sadlyinflation depletes older peoples savings, but it is the way things are.

Well it's not too bad if one is on benefits , but how much longer it can keep going is a bit of a mystery. Yes and I have to grow flowers to keep the wolf from the door.

Your country has just become too expensive and i have no idea how any one survives there. No wonder Archie is selling at his stall on the street just to keep going.

A lot of things have gone up over the years...It is tough to be a farmer these days. Less than 2% of America's population are farmers. Most of the farms nowadays are large corporate entities...I like the ending to the poem.

Unfortunately, C C T, everything has gone up in price over the past 50 years or so, some more ridiculous than others! There's a series of greeting cards I once saw that lists some interesting factoids about certain things during the year you were born, including the prices of various products! However, people's wages weren't as high as they are today either, so there was a slight balance. Even the cows get paid better today . . .
