I believe, deep down, no one wants to see an injured animal suffer in any way. Perhaps her injury was minor enough that she could recover quickly. Something tells me she's in good hands on that property . . .

Of course she came back to you.  You two are her family, her inspiration, her encouragement to get well again.  Besides that you feed her well which helps with healing.

Perhaps she had been in a fight and was injured I might have tried to trap her somehow, but I expect it would do more harm than good. As long as she can get food she has the best chance to survive. I was thinking the other day how miserable if we did not have a garden to mess around in. Or to fall over in.

Those plastic ties are indeed a wonderful invention. I cannot imagine a world without them...That is nice how much you and Wiley care about the Queen Squirrel.

It's hard...

and we can only do so much.  I'm not sure how much it really matters to the balance of Nature or the nature of the critters we adopt. I think what really matters most is that we are moved to help, to make connection, to share our love: It means more to validate our humanity, than it does to the improve the world of squirrels.

On the other hand, it can make all the difference to one single squirrel.
