For a short time I had a successful house-sharing, I was the applicant .. I think the lady was so glad to get someone 'normal' enough and so badly needed the rent that it just had to work.  Good luck.

That's true. There are still some honest, decent people out there! And please, don't mention snow! We've had our fill over here . . .

Re: Annicita,

It's different when one is sharing the space, and is right there to know what's going on.  And my housemates will pay up front, or they won't move in.

Re: FormerStudentIntern.

Yes, I think this one could work out well.  There has been another email from someone who just wants it from now until May. So... both could work out.

Re: Pat,

My room has a bathroom, and the room downstairs is next to another, though it is also the guest bathroom for visitors to the house.

I explain plainly that the kitchen is run by communal kitchen rules: when the next person wants to use it, everything should be clean and ready. Some things get handwashed for that reason, not put in the dishwasher.

And no majory cookery after 10ish... my room catches all the smells, and cooked meat, or popcorn are obnoxious when I am trying to go to sleep.

That would be great if things materialize with him renting the room.

A girl has to be careful - I suppose a boy does, too, about the

company she keeps, esp. if they're sharing a kitchen & bathroom. If I ever move to a different house there will be two bathrooms, because I just don't want to share. It's not just being picky, there are times when nature calls and it's an emergency situation...

Re: adnohr,

I am rethinking how I wrote my ad.  If this fellow doesn't pan out, I will rewrite it to say, Accepting applications for a house-sharing situation: Please respond with an email addressing these questions.

The questions will ask some about them, and what their needs are, how long they need a place...  stuff like that.  Current situation, why they are leaving; occupation, reliable income...  If they read the ad, and answer the questions, I figure they are serious enough to talk to. And I won't get vague responses that don't really show me that they read the ad.

If you do go ahead and do it, you can always run the replies by your family here... I have some experience and Kabu has very good radar for scammery.

Hmmm - am rethinking my though of advertising for a housemate. Being the softy, gullible person, I would probably end up in big doodoo....

I know I don't need to tell you to be careful, and I hope you find someone suitable soon...

good luck house mate hunting...It seems as though there is more to this than I thought. Spring broke through here yesterday, gone again today. It is cold misty rain, a real inside day.

Ciel many years ago we had an old bungalow which we wanted to let. I put an advert in the Local Times and was absolutely besieged with sad letters even folk from Ireland it was a nightmare, I did not know so many desperate people were around, even one party who wanted to rent our bungalow and let their own for double the money I expect. I felt obliged to write a standard reply to each very short  I admit. I vowed never to do it again.
