I agree. I think what happens with humans get distorted by talk.  Eliminate certain talk, compassion and empathy would abound. Bad news travels fast, get repeated because most get a thrill by watching others suffer. Aggression has taken over now days for a variety of reasons.

Drug additions lead to loss of mind control and body control. Given this, it is not known the number of individuals, which individual will at ANY TIME snap from some form of overload. At that point, someone or many are harmed. At the root is a pained person who was not heard or was talked to in wrong ways.

You know this, of course.

I know we have one little song thrush that calls each day,

the black birds drive it away because it is different and smaller,

so I sprinkle meal worms in the grass and the blackbirds are a bit thick

and do not notice. I am trying to think of an animal kindness.

Well my cat ignores birds, I think it was because when it was young

its previous owner  hung a bell around its neck and it thinks it cannot catch them.

All cats should wear bells don't you think.

and one of the reasons people are so viscious and do the things they do because it makes such a big deal on he news its exciting to them to be all over the news.  The squirells just have to survive out there in the cold and they could care less about the news

More humans can learn some valuable life-lessons if they paid more attention to the animals. I've seen similar behavior displayed with elephants. When they're migrating, if one is wounded or lagging behind for some reason, other memebers of the herd will stagger back to help. Compassion should be everyone's strongest emotion . . .

I love nature.  Even when something of nature seems raw and unkind, there is a reason for what happens.  There are so many lessons we can learn from nature.

That's truly lovely, Grandmummy.  I'll stick to animals too, thank you very much.  Not long ago, I heard the story of a blind lion in a zoo or refuge of some sort who was befriended by a daschund.  It made me cry to see it.

I have seen both sides of the coin and witnessed many graceful mercies with both animal and human and the horrific on both sides as well, but this story of yours touched our hearts as deeply as any poet could...Lovely

A very powerful story you have there with the Queen Squirrel and the Starving Squirrel.

Altruism is one of those traits that used to be considered a definition

of humanity. Like language and tool-making, the past few years have shown it defines a quality--perhaps that of soul--that we share with other higher-intelligence creatures.

Of course, those who've lived with dogs already knew. And some cats. No, I didn't mean that cats knew...

I heard a line the other day: Dogs look up to us, cats look down on us, and pigs consider us their equals.

I've seen squirrels do that, too. Didn't know it was a form of

sharing. I just thought the new one was taking advantage of the moment.  Well told, Kabu. :)
