Re: CCT,

Bicycle?  Me?  I don't think so!  Not unless it has an engine.  I wonder if a Vespa could make the trip... Now you're giving me ideas...  How well does a Vespa operate at 14,000 feet?  I know helicopters are iffy.

You are brave Ciel, I really cannot visualize that as a joy ride. I suppose next thing we read will be you have gone up on your bicycle. I should get those brakes checked, if there are any linings still on them.

Re: JimmyA,

Still, compared with what other people have pushed to the summit... one guy rolled a peanut to the summit with his nose.  It took him 150 peanuts, I forget how many gloves and pants... and 21 days.

Even the guys--7 or 8 of them--only took 10 and a half hours to push a grand piano all the way to the top.

Re: I did that drive in the early '70s. Wow...

It's really a great experience... I will not look out my window hereafter, without knowing, and feeling changed.

Re: FormerStudentIntern.

There sure can be, if your vehicle isn't up to it.  Also, if, as they are doing next weekend, the road is closed to the general public while a production company is filming scenes for the next Fast and Furious sequel.

Re: Naut,

Yes, the second oldest car race in the US.  I bet you know the first.

Ciel

Fascinating, and I'm looking forward to your pics! BTW, is this the same stretch of road used for the famous Pike's Peak Hill Climb?

It sounds like there is a whole lot of excitement driving on that road.

My Saturn and its tiny 4-cylinder engine hates hills of any kind, so I don't think it would appreciate a jaunt up ( or down ) Pike's Peak! Yeah, after that, I guess you deserve a nap . . .
