It's really a shame to read and hear about all that destruction. At least these women have each other for support . . .

So sad

Loss of life is always tragic, but especially so when it was (in theory, at least) preventable. They have a long road ahead, trying to rebuild and heal as a community

I have found that too that when I have known the people and places, the stories hit home more.

Ciel

A very sad situation, especially when there is loss of life that could have been avoided! Often it's a case of people having an unrealistic sense of 'it can't happen here'...

Re: Pat,

I don't know about tin roofing, but I know there are fire-resistant sidings that are in use.

Yes, a quiet year or two all around would be just the thing!

Re: Annicita,

This has not affected me personally.  I don't know when those affected will be allowed home.  They are saying it was human-caused, but have not yet determined if it was accident or arson.  The central area where it began is taped off as a crime scene.

Re: CCT,

Clearing out brush and deadwood can help, but a lot of the burning starts with cinders flying great distances on the wind--which we have had a lot of!

I've heard some who lose homes in forest fires build back with

tin roofs and fire-resistant siding. Some people are more attached to a home place or to the memorabilia inside, the photographs, etc. I hear others just thankful their family is safe. It's so hard to see homes wiped out by fire, flood, wind... Wouldn't it be nice to have a quiet year to recover.

do you have any idea when you can move back in?  what was the cause of the fire?

True it just links somehow. I hope for those who return that clear spaces are kept so it cannot happen again.
