Kabu

It is interesting to read all those things about life in Australia. I love them.

You had a very colorful and interesting childhood.  And now, happy golden years.

I hope that Wiley's feeling better. I know of a few people who ache more when the temperature dips...Congrats to the housekeeper...That was a lot of excitement your mother had driving.

Those aches and pains catch up on one Kabu. Don't let Wiley get cold. I am always leaving the back door open and Arthur says another ten bob's worth of heat gone you must be a millionaire. Now did your little helper ever learn to use the toothbrush in the corners? That really caught my fancy, you must have picked that trait up in nursing. Cars were apt to tip sideways in the olden days I remember my Mum saying she was taken for a ride in a Austin 7 I believe and going round a corner it tipped sideways. We could only afford a horse we did not have sheep only geese.

that is so true, it happens to me all the time

Scent memories are strong and quietly persistant

and often pop up unexpectedly, so the people say who study such things. Visiting certain places, like, for me, San Francisco, where I lived for a couple of years as an infant: the first time I was back there after many years, the scent of eucalyptus said "Home!" to me on so many levels, I felt old  hilchooc feelings, even without homing in on specific memories.

It is funny, sometimes smells or even colors. I miss the ranch.

So true that a word can trigger a memory and this one must have put a smile on your face just thinking about it.

i remember when you didnt have to wear a seatbelt....vain me was perturbed to have to wrinkle my suits and dresses to wear one.  Not to mention the battles everyday with my kids to get them to wear one.

I'm glad there were no seat belts and bucket seats when I was young and dating.  It was a lot more fun to be close to the driver, and two heads on one shoulder driving down the road at night.  Of course there were no interstates then, and no cell phones, but some really good music on the car radio.

Yes, I know how words can sometimes trigger memories, Grandmummy.  Mum actually confessed something to me that other night that made me cry, not only for myself, but for her too.

Oh, never mind your silly grandbaby.  I'm all right.  Just emotional for some reason of late.  You know the female mind!  I'm so glad your Mum wasn't hurt in that car wreck and I do hope Poppy is better.  I love you both always.

Kabuiepie-;)~

Yes it was different hearing the female voices as I woke up, but a nice break for you love.Imagine, and Jess a nurse in training too. You wrote of your Dad's Humber car and that brought back unpleasant memories of my FIL from my first marriage. He had one of those. I'm glad your mum got out of that car accident alright love.

I can understand and relate completely. Sometimes the triggered memory is actually good, sometimes it is not. And I remember my parents retiring and moving to Florida to escape the cold, because of the effect it was having on my dad's replaced hips. Tell Wiley to hang in there! I know he's a tough old bird!

I know Wiley's been working too hard lately, so he's due a sleep in

one day, and a recoup from the aches & pains - weather changes don't help, either. It's so typical of ladies to spruce up the house before the cleaner gets there.  Of course I'm a total slob now that I'm trying to get so much writing done this month.   :)

Hey Kabu

First glad to hear Wiley is doing well, aside from aches and pains. We live in California and the weather here is in the upper 80"s today but is expected to plummet down into the low 60"s tomorrow and rain like hell Thursday and Friday. California weather is like that.

I love reading peoples memories, I posted my own the other day. I always tried to give my kids good memories when they were young with all the birthday parties, Easter hunts, other holidays, and vacations with family, because I always felt that the good memories would help get them past the hard teenage years when everything seems to be screwed up. They don't talk about it much, but I hope they remember those times. It's nice to have memories to hold onto Kabu. Thanks for sharing yours.
