I think that the words are a little devalued - we use them too often and too easily and they lose their power but  they still have effect if used with sincerity

I think it's a role that's quite common to men - we're not often great at talking about feelings so we show them in other ways.  (Not to say that women can't be fixers too - there are many of them)
