It's very difficult and so sad
I think the greatest challenge is that people try to apply logic but there's nothing logical about anorexia.

I wish people would think about smart ways to convey the importance of healthy eating to children but also showing them how to trust their own appetite.   Sadly so many  end up drinking soft drinks like they are water.

How sad all of this is...i believe it has much to do with not wanting to
become an adult. i do pray that this child gets the help that she needs before it is too late.

How very sad for the young girl! If she is institutionalized I do hope they can help her! Otherwise, it can only be deadly! I will have her in my prayers!

Dear Malcolm...

I ache for you and Susan and for this girl and her family.  This is a horrid disease.  I will pray that she goes into hospital, because as painful as this is, this is where she needs to be.  If it isn't done now...

I am outraged by this book too.  How can anyone be so stupid as to write a book aimed at six year-old children about going on a diet?

Much love and many, many prayers for you all.  And thank you so much for your kind offer of help.

It is a mental illness, and it can kill.
Parents, even the most well-meaning, need the help of medical professionals to deal with the situation. I hope it works out for her and she achieves blooming good health. When the body's okay the mind gets better too in this situation.

malcolm, I don't blame you for being outraged...
So am I...6 yr olds should not be dieting as it sooner or later will only lead to worse problems  down the road...and this anorexia is almost epidemic in a society than places so much on "looks".....its into fashions now, too, with a French company introducing provocative fashions for ten year olds, and the inevitable provocative posing in the company's advertising publication.
