In some mysterious way, I passed my sewing class in High School, made one pantsuit at home  that looked kind of alright, and then never touched the enemy (the sewing machine) again!

I really want to learn to sew. I attempted some pajama
bottoms a couple of years ago.  One leg is much bigger
than the other, but I wore them for a while proud that
i finally attempted something.

loll Kabu... You go girl!  Though I got to tell you that those jumpsuits from the eighties and the color-blocked vibrant shirts seem to be doing a comeback :-)  and isn't that the way... the minute you get rid of something it comes back into fashion  loll  Can't wait for those Gnomes to get home!  xoxoxo

Kabu
Gussets in trousers? Wouldn't it make more sense to reduce the intake?

LMAO at Wiley's comment!! I never do it now-a-days, but I can remember loving the smell of the hot iron on a white shirt just off the clothesline. That reminds me of spring. Lovely funny post, Kabu. I was smiling all the way through.

Ah, the gusset that allows the garment to accomodate more than was intended

by the original tailor... I am a believer in spandex gussets!  Right down the side seams!

What the heck is a gusset?
For some reason I thought it was the button you fasten a suspender to. However, I now get the impression it may be something like a hammock of sorts designed to conceal or emphasize some anatomical feature or other.... guess I'll check Google.

I am similar to you, as my mom didnt have any patience to help me learn to sew or do anything domestic, I just did the best I could.  My mom could of been a professional seamstress I bet if she wanted to.  But one thing I remember the most was her sitting with a light bulb in the toe of the socks darning them

Well Kabu you surprise me I have seen many a gusset carefully placed in a happy hubby's trousers and of course when even that became unable to contain the aftermath of fair living, it was into the old rag rug especially if there was a nice bit of red material for the center.

I remember the psychedelic colours, and the darning, and the piles of ironing... Never darn, these days, and iron as little as possible, life being too short for such activities!
