Thanks, Pat!

Me, I have given up putting energy into the question of causes.  To act responsibly is, in my opinion, to act as if human activity has some impact which we can moderate, but also that change comes inevitably, and the course of wisdom and survival is to be prepared for it as much as we can be, as individuals and as a community.

As things are, we--by which I mean, largely, Western culture--have gotten used to being able to lean as heavily as we like on the Earth's own dynamics and resources.  We have indulged in careless disregard for our impact. We have trusted Mother to absorb our mistakes, our excesses. That is one of the things that marks us as, on the average, an adolescent society, perhaps, species.

It matter quite a bit......
when the Glo-Warmers, under the guise of the human impact,  are promoting drastic changes in our economic system, under the scam of Carbon Credits, Cap and trade (a veiled system of redistributing the wealth from the richer countries to the poorer), and restrictions on some countries productivity while exempting others.

Al Gore just bought a house on the ocean for over 8 million dollars...where did he get the money?  He owns part of the new "Energy Exchange" in of all places "Chicago".  He has become a billionaire from his Eco-Religion...he's their "Pope"!

He's so happy that the Glo-Warmers press on, believing the mantra and singing Kumbaya.....yep, he's laughing all the way to his Swiss Bank....

You both make such sense. And we're not the first or the last people
to consider this issue and come to divergent conclusions about the causes and potential cures. It's useful to read you both.

Sam, thank you--This is one of the best compliments I've gotten in Blogit!
It helps that Naut and I both like and respect each other, and while we don't always agree or see things from quite the same angle, our discussions are never about counting emotional 'coup.'

I am finding the dialogue between you and Naut very interesting. It's so civil and so unlike Blogit in some facets! I love it! This is how debate should go! KUDOS to both of you! sam

Re: Ciel

Maybe the problem is that this is perceived as a problem 'nigh impossible.'  Let's start that discussion: What will you be prepared to do in practical terms if/when the next Little Ice Age delivers a year without a summer--as it did a few hundred years ago?

I'm thinking of sneaking across the border into Mexico..

Ciel

The problem is that, for quite some time now, the whole thing has become politicized to the point that a reasonable public discussion of 'what to do' in practical terms has become nigh impossible, largely because of groups of 'Eco-Nazis' whose 'religious' zealotry is not far removed from that of our real religious fanatics, particularly the Islamo-Fascists...

And since politicians are always inlined to pay attention to the loudest voices, rather than the voices of informed reason, we get politically motivated 'solutions', rather than those based on scientific knowledge...
