Just write it!
Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Just write it! Nothing else matters until that's done. Give yourself permission to write. You can change it later. You can deal with people in your life later! Until it's written, and the publishing contract is done, the rest is irrelevant.

Little_Girl_Blue
If after you "fictionalize it," others can immediately recognize themselves, you didn't fictionalize it enough. Afterall, you're not hiding the "truth" from some woman in Hoboken, you're hiding it from those who would be hurt. I would never write about my life for this reason. The other is it's so incredibly boring no one would want to read it. In my manuscript, there is a tremendous amount of autobiographical material including characters loosely based on individuals I know/have known. Some will recognize traits and quirks, but none will see themselves. If anything, I'm worried someone will read between the lines and believe something is true that isn't. I won't go any further or dig any deeper. The risk simply isn't worth the reward.
