You probably will enjoy Rumored Humor's latest blog, & my comment.

Strat,

I think the appropriate category is either in "Humor" or else it is in "Everything Else." Having just recently attended my father's memorial service, I appreciate the sentiment that in the few preceding days, nothing but tears and sadness have been done to death. (no pun intended) A few laughs and smiles in memory and tribute to the lost loved one, are entirely appropriate. Grief can, and certainly will come before, and afterward. Happiness that the person graced your life, and sharing good memories, makes death easier to endure.

Just a week or so ago it was 25 years

since my father died which makes me sound ancient but he died too young.  It was sweet and funny how no plan was made but somehow a couple of us got together just for half an hour and had a drink to toast him.

Because he was too young, it was harder to have fun that day. Have you ever seen this blog - Funeral Fun

The problem is, that your folks will be hurting so much when you go that they can't help crying, caterwauling and so on. I think part of the purpose of a funeral is to give people permission to grieve - to say that it's OK to feel sad. But you're right, a bit of humour at a funeral does lift the whole occasion and make it much more bearable. There's nothing like a good funeral....

I am with you, I don't want tears either! Toast me and laugh and laugh! I loved your Dad's one liner, too funny! I had not thought of funeral beginning with fun, such a new perspective for me! I hope you are around for a very long time, too! sam
