This is great! Ed is doing our combined Family Trees and we have exactly those problems, altough not expressed quite so elegantly!

scot, quite a few years ago, a man in Ottawa with the same last name did a
very thorough tracing back of our family tree...it was interesting that he noted one of the best places to find info was cemeteries...lol (dates and whatnot)...I would not know we are Irish, and even further back, German...

..

Good luck. My brother and I have tried tracing our family, but we have had very little success. Recently though we found mention of them in the 1911 British Census, but before that all is shrowded in mystery as they say. Probably not unusual for families with eastern European Jewish roots.

I agree it can be so confusing. In India, there is an ancient system where tracing the family tree is just no problem. I'm however now intrigued, and will try and find out mine own.
