That is terrible...
...somehow these people think dogs are rough and tumble in every way...it's total foolishness and so so dangerous.  My dog is at the other end of the spectrum....he has a type of doggy car seat in the back of the car....can't imagine leaving a dog loose in a car...doesn't the same thing happen to it as a human when you slam on the brakes?.

I think the worst I have seen out here in my set of sticks is a well to do family safe and sound in their truck, while the poor little Chichiuaha was tied in the back on a string just like a regular sized dog would be. I was shocked. Though I have to admitt while the man was getting in the truck he didn't pay attention to his own kid and let the kid wander the parking lot, while cars were driving in and out. So I guess there is ill-parenting skills to go with bad pet owner skills...I really believe people should take tests and stuff before they have kids and dogs..Great post...Sorry about the rant...

Trucks and loose dogs...
I think it's a universal sickness.  Then when you get out of your car in a parking lot and the poor dog snarls at you like you are a fresh bowl of kibble.  I think they also like to make the poor dogs mean and that can't be good either.

There is a lot of cruelty in this world. It is bad on you for you to stress so over things you cannot change.

Hi, Scot, I once saw a dog in the back of a pickup truck with a broken leg - he was hurtling back and forth like a rag doll and I tried to pass the idiot driver to tell him, but he hauled ass in front of me.  I was incensed.  thanks for reading my blog.  It was not about my son, but was written by the father of Daniel Pearl the Wall St. Journal reporter who was kidnapped and beheaded on tape in 2002.  I have a very soft spot for Scots, too.  My now-deceased cousin, David Stemple, had a manor house in St. Andrews, I have cousins and a Godson in Glasgow. And several years ago, I befriended a young Israeli guy who spoke Hebrew like a native, but when he started talking English, you could cut his Scottish brogue with a knife!!  His family immigrated to Israel from Glasgow when he was 8 years old! I look forward to reading more from you...Mal

scot, that is downright cruelty, for sure..I don't know if you got the
truck's licence plate and reported it to the authorities if it might help...might be worth a try...

They do this in the great north?
I always thought pickups with dogs in the back was a southern custom, a bubba tradition... guess stupidity or cruelty or whatever motivates this stuff is universal.

I don't think we ever get used to it! I am always so fretful for the animal when I see it too! sam

Grrrr. I get really upset when I see people being cruel or thoughtless with animals, and have been in more than one squabble because of it. Have been reading back to your other posts - good stuff - really enjoyed the read! Also have to admit I have a soft spot for Scots - one of the most important people in my life was a second generation from Scotland, so I tend to generalize that all Scots are stand-up people, LOL! I can still see the "Scotland Forever" picture on the wall - it's one of my warmest memories. Thanks for looking in on my Blog!

Dave---Thanks for reading my rant.

I firmly believe that everyone has a conscience. And I think many Blogit people have fairly well developed ones.

All the best.
