I think possibly...
You encountered (I was going to say ran across, but oops) a militant biker, those who think they should be granted the same rights as a car.  Maybe he had to actually get into the bike lane, who knows?  We live on a narrow county road and when I ride my bike to work, I get as far over as I can and if two trucks are going to meet where I am, I stop so they know I'm not going to swerve into traffic.  Others ride in the car lane (there is no real bike lane, only a very narrow shoulder) and ignore the fact that a semi weighs 40 tons to their 170 pounds or so.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure who loses on that deal.
