I can't help you much! My experience is restricted more or less to cats, where there is one rule: training neither required nor possible...

TAPS. my daughter the dog trainer says it is a herding behavior,

and possibly also a security-seeking thing.  She suggests retraining by pushing the dog away and giving a treat when he's in the proper position--away from your legs.  He won't know that's the best and most rewarding place to be if he is never shown that.

For the very reason you state, he should be taught this, because it is a very real danger, not to be minimized with "Aw, he's just being friendly!"  You, m'dear, have had your quota of fallings-down for the next several years!

Ciel, is that running between the legs a border collie thing?  Rocky is still doing it and he's years old now.  It is quite exasperating.  One of these days he's going to bowl me over when I go visiting Son #3.

Sam, the chew toy department is good...
We switch out the wrong items for the right ones as needed, because he will indeed chew anything!  Latest favorite was a leather chew in the shape of a ring. He was gnawing on that all day yesterday... between attacks on an old bear-claw slipper, big fuzzy thing--and the plush horn that blows CHARGE! when poked or chewed in a certain place.

Keep your treasures up high. We always gave the animals chew toys and kept things put up and then one day life is great!  sam
