Gapcohen I feel it is important to answer these people like David

of whom there are unfortunately too many around and whether is is brainwashing or a mental illness that causes their flawed thinking and judgement about certain groups of people or just plain ignorance, it needs to be answered sharply and well.

Less educated people are likely to be influenced by these sorts of people. If you ever go onto the Yahoo message boards at Yahoo 7, it is quite frankly disgusting what some people are posting about Israel and Jews etc etc and the number of anti Jewish websites there are is astounding. A sydney jewish woman her nickname is Shirlou and I go on there at times to counter the lies and misconceptions that they publish and we have repeatedly complained to Yahoo 7 but to no avail.

I am a naturally curious person so I will look for truths in texts but many people are not so discriminating and get led by the nose. I taught a class in year 10 who did not know that the 'shoah' or holocaust was in 2003. I soon put that to rights and they could not believe at first that 6 million people died and how they were herded in cattle trucks and the absolute cruelty of the Nazi regime and its supporters.

Re: Re: Compassion
I did not mean to suggest that you responded with hate and it is clear from your blog that you are a concerned and loving person.  I look forward to reading more from you.

Re: Compassion
No, you didn't bore me and I actually agree with a lot of what you said.  As for "I don't think it is his intention to be hateful"  - well, when you go on a paranoid rant about the evil of a certain religious group, I don't know what else to call it.  Personally, I think that Dave is mentally ill; there are theories that Adolph Hitler suffered from syphilis and that might have accounted for some of his madness.  I have heard from the Daves of the world all of my life and their paranoia/craziness doesn't concern me as much as the reactions to it.  On Dave's blogs, it seems that most, if not all, comments are positive - even on his blatant "Anti-Zionist" and "Jews caused slavery in the US" blogs.  I was protesting that - and not in a hateful way  - just in a "what are you trying to achieve by spouting this stuff?" way.  I am open minded and feel that everyone has the right to practice their religious beliefs as they see fit.  I am drawn to people who do good works, Jew or non-Jew, who try to make this world a better place.  If you study the Holocaust, you'll find that the hatred towards Jews didn't happen overnight.  Slowly, slowly, they (we ) were cast as the "evil" race, the sole reason that life was not good in Germany after WW1.  This was obviously not true- but all the Davelike rantings back then, with little opposition (and those who opposed lost jobs, rights, etc.) created a horrific movement with consequences we can't even begin to fathom.  That is why I feel I must shed a light on these things.  I am not fighting hate with hate - I'm merely attempting to bring it out into the open.  Anyway - as you can see by my last two entries - I don't want to waste my time on this guy and have much better, happier things to write about!

Compassion
Originally I found Dave's blog interesting since I was new here and his posts seemed like a strategy for higher earnings (not that anybody on here actually makes much money and most don't do it for money anyway).  I'll admit to having been taken in by it at first.  Then I also got blocked from comments when I protested something he said.  Seems like a pattern and his last blog entries even advocate this move.  I don't think it is his intention to be hateful.  He seems truly convinced that he is doing the world a favor.  We all take a wrong stance from time to time and mostly based on misguided information.  There is a lot of misinformation being spread around, especially on the internet that can easily be mistaken for truth by people who are in a hurry to make a point or take a stance.  There is also a lot of information taken as truth by most that is misinformation too.  I too sometimes have to step back from information (even some received from my own extended family) and clear my head before reacting on it, and I sometimes fail at establishing the real world relevance of such info.  To fight hate with hate is what has the world in a mess.  Paranoia is a symptom of high levels of stress in a person inclined to be suspicious.  Responding to him in an equally hateful manner will probably send him over the edge eventually.  I know it is hard to resist the temptation to hate the likes of him if you are the target of his rantings and I have tried to respond in a more humorous way, but who knows if anything will get through.  Personally I hope someone near to Dave will help him get on with the important and relevant things in life at this time.  We really need to choose to get over ourselves and start working towards a better and more compassionate world.  Hope I didn't bore you to death with my comment.

Re: Re: Re: Dave's rifle and meds

I'm not sure we are acting responsibly when we are so concerned w/ "certain blogger" earning our "clicks", that we overlook the venomous nature of his message and say nothing. I just feel "propriety" should go out the window in a case like this.  He doesn't deserve polite discourse

As far as;

So.............how 'bout those Cubs? (Remember, I'm from Chicago.) goes

I'm a Mets fan myself.

Re: I have complained to Blogit about him myself.
Another voice of reason.  Thanks so much.  I, for one, plan not to click on Dave anymore.

I have complained to Blogit about him myself.

and have responded negatively to his rantings.

it is so odd that he occupies the No. 1 spot in religion.

I have tried to make sense of anything he says without success.

Re: Re: Dave's rifle and meds

I do consider myself open minded however, I have always preferred men (this is not to say I've anything AGAINST women......i've "experimented" ).

Now, down to business.....I COMMEND you for your almost instantaneous response to "certain blogger" and hope that said response will set an example to fellow blogit members. I'm not sure we are acting responsibly when we are so concerned w/ "certain blogger" earning our "clicks", that we overlook the venomous nature of his message and say nothing.

So.............how 'bout those Cubs? (Remember, I'm from Chicago.)

Re: Dave's rifle and meds
Hey, Zen - I think I love you... honestly.  If I was a lesbian and didn't love men so much, I'd go after you!  I was starting to think that this blog site was filled only with people who bobbleheaded, drooled and wringed their hands while reading Dave's rantings. "Yes, master, anything you say, master. You are the man, master."   His words, as in the case of most madmen and unibombers, generally twist and knot more than the cords behind my computer, but I did get the gist of it.  I ended up commenting on two of his posts - and he, um, had a hard time with dissention - going on a rant in return, then BLOCKING ME!  Now, I realize that wise people like you tend to stay away from his site - or at least leave no comments.  But I felt it was up to me to at least call him out on what he was saying.  I will stay here and continue to do what I first intended; explain Jewish practice and culture to a worldwideweb audience.  I really appreciate your comments - you have no idea.

Thanks for commenting.  I'll try to continue to report on all the positive elements about Judiasm.  My hope is that people will learn and understand and then respect.  I appreciate your kind words

Just so you know,

I've seen the blogger you mention attack everyone, sometimes even personally.  It's pretty much par for the course.  I offer you this as food for thought:

On a site where popularity is driven by clicks, use your clicks wisely.

I cannot tell you reading this post has brightened my day. I was going to give you an advanced warning re: dave's posts, but decided you would most certainly figure it out on your own. And, you did........and so quickly. Kudos to you on naming names in your post rather than "copping" to the more commonly used verbiage of "certain bloggers". I hope you do not become discouraged and decide to leave this forum, because we NEED your voice. I so look forward to your future posts.

(I'm not sure I have ever respond to any of dave's posts since I have a suspicion that he sits at his computer w/ a fully loaded rifle leaning against his desk, waiting for a phone call from his doctor requesting yet another increase in the dosage of his anti-psychotic meds.)

Now THIS is a great post...
I have so much more to say but I am smack dab in the middle of moving out of state tomorrow morning. I sure hope to read more and I promise I will come back and comment more as soon as I get settled in the next few days. Keep up the excellent work. Oh, & btw, I am a Jew myself, so I can relate to this. Didn't know about Speilberg stuff. Great to know. This was very interesting stuff.
