Oh my word, Corbin, I'm speechless!!

So thankful you're alive to talk about this dreadful event, only sorry you couldn't reach over and punch the living daylights out of the drunk dude, but obviously you're too much of a gentleman for that.  Wow!!

I wish you Godspeed, good healing, improved pain control and at all costs avoid any bedsores!!!!

PS -- It does rather help to put things in perspective, eh?  Multiple tib/fib/femur fractures vs broken C2-C3 on vent for remainder of life.  Amazing thing about the Amish, unlike yours truly who wished to punch the lights out of your offender, is that they do their best to forgive the offender, as humanly possible, just as God has forgiven them.

Re: hi corbin...SO sorry!!! OMG I really feel for you as I myself
Glad to hear you had a positive experience....I will do my best to achieve the same!   Thanks for the encouragement!

hi corbin...SO sorry!!! OMG I really feel for you as I myself
incurred a similar (sort of) injury, compound fracture, left tibfib, repaired with a huge rod running down the length of the entire shin bone.  It took about a year before I felt comfy applying my leg to anything aside from walking, but after that it turned out to be just as good if not better than it was before.

It is so weird when something like this happens.  Your world gets turned upside down in an instant...  ((((((((((Corbin)))))))))))))))

wow... Corbin, I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you. I haven't been
around much.  I hope you're well on your way to recovery now.  Therapy is tough but you have the right mind set and will be back on your feet in no time!   Hang in there!

I just now saw this, I am so sorry to hear about this accident and your messed up leg, but I know you wonder why it happened to you, although you feel this pain and you are still alive maybe the accident that stopped this drunk kept him from hitting another person killing them.  Who knows God works in mysterious ways.  My daughter saw an accident in front of her the other night, she said it barley missed her car.  Take care and glad to see it hasnt kept you down

Not to sound monotonous.....but, I had only started to get concerned, thinking you were off on a long tour.  That said....I am so very sorry for your misfortune.  Unfortunately, it is an all too common story to me.  I am so glad to hear your prognosis to date....and where your head is at this point....knowing what I do of your character and personality from your posts and comments, I have no doubts that you will have the best possible outcome.....and that can be pretty good if you follow the therapists' rules.....they really can work miracles.....I've seen it lots of times....and the key is the patient's cooperation.

I hope you haven't retained an attorney....you always have that option and there is absolutely no need to rush into it.  I hate to see people give away at least a third of their money when there is usually no need to.  Attorneys quite honestly usually do very little to earn more money for their clients' pockets...at least they never did on cases I settled.  Injuries like yours are very probably worth your UM limits....if your state allows you to "stack" the limits of all your vehicles, possible those, too, if you have permanent injuries...which, at your age range you should definitely have in some form - your career requires walking, full mobility, etc....I'm just brainstorming here....the point is, it doesn't take an attorney to see that the amount of bills, that many months disability, the impact on future income...a drunk driver, etc.....this is not brain surgery to settle this case...just my opinion.  Hang tough, my friend....you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I wish I had the strength to respond to all of you.......
Thank all of you for the kind comments......

I have been getting better this last week....sitting in a stiff recliner right now,  am taking little "strolls" with the walker.

Stitches and staples have been removed....latest x-rays show perfect alignment  of bones, rods, plates and screws......working hard to wean myself of the pain meds......but sometimes, you just can't suppress it.

I tire after being up for about 2 hours......but as long as I see improvement, I know I'm gonna be OK.

Corbin,

First of all, I'm so sorry to hear about all of this. Mark had an injury almost identical to yours, so reading your story was like looking at a page from my own past.

As someone who's been there, done all of that, I'm going to give you a couple pointers:

Make sure you watch the leg, especially the stitches, for any sign of infection.

Don't be tempted to start putting weight on it before the doc gives you the Okay.

And most importantly, stay away from any and all grocery stores! Those cart driving maniacs have no respect for a man on crutches--they'll mow you down without a second thought!

And just for the record, if I find the guy that hit you, a broken leg will be the least of his worries! If there was ever a case for a bit of "street justice", this is it

Corbin, and here I thought just maybe it was an extended business trip
you'd forgot to mention...man, I am sorry to hear what you've been through...sounds like your life (work) is in capable hands, so you just take care and get better!......(your life is in capable hands, too, I know you know that....:)

Corbin,
I just saw this now - how terrible! We were wondering where you had gone to! Take it one day at a time and be blessed that you're surrounded by lots of loving people.

Manipulating a broken femur like that...
...could have killed you in seconds by an embolism. The femur is one of the body's major factories for making blood and the energy to do that is stored as fat inside the bone. When the femur is broken, this fat can enter the blood stream, travel to heart, lungs or brain and cause death.

This is one scary story.

Corbin, I'm so glad you are okay! I was worried about you!

I thought maybe you had gone a trip too, but usually you keep in touch even on your trips.  I hope you feel better soon!!!

Hang in there :)

Wow, so glad you're alive...would you believe that I had a "feeling" you
had been in an accident?  It was only the day after you didn't sign in that I thought that.  When others aren't here for days, I don't "feel" that they were in an accident, but I actually felt that you were (right away) and have been praying for you ever since.  I'm so sorry this happened to you...

I am so sorry about this. It is a bummer. I will be praying for you. I have been out a lot but I have missed you and I am glad you are home. I know you will walk again and you will be fine. You are stubborn. God is in charge just allow him to help you. We all love you and wish you a speedy recovery.

It was good to hear from you again, even if the news are not exactly as I had expected. I too thought that maybe you were on a trip somewhere nice. Take it easy now, so that your body can repair itself. Tschüs!

Holy Cow!
I, too, just assumed you were out on vacation or something. What an ordeal. That you can consider yourself lucky and focus on recovery is a great mindset. Hang in there, and know that we're all thinking about you!

And maybe we should just, you know, put a crew together with baseball bats and two by fours and give that guy a leg or two to match the one he gave you. Bastard.

The hell of it is, no insurance, no money, no nothing, and we'll get to pay for his jail time. Amazing.

Take care!

Like Naut when I returned to Blogit and noticed you were not here; I assumed you were away on a trip.  I am sorry to learn that has not been the case.

Please know you are in my prayers and wishing you a full and speedy recovery.  You know your blogit friends are here when you are able to get yourself around.

I had not worried about your absence, having simply assumed you were on an extended trip that didn't give you much opportunity to blog. And now this!

I am awfully sorry that this has happend to you! Having been through a similar experience, although with far less serious injuries, I can really empathize! My very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery go out to you, and I trust that your lawyers are preparing to deal with that drunk bastard who hit you, as soon as he comes out of jail!

Corbin_Dallas, I am so sorry to read all of this.  Of course I wondered where you were and imagined all kinds of happy, fun things that you were doing.  Never once did I envision anything such as this.  Of course my prayers and wishes for a good recovery are and will be with you during your recuperation, therapy and healing.

corbin .... so sorry this happened to you - I hope the driver
was given a DUI/DWI after his happy meal.  I hope your recovery is quick and painless ... and I will be sending up prayers for the Amish girl and her family.  The hospital staff who offered you pain meds and then disappeared should be ashamed ... if they were busy they should have said nothing, or found someone who wasn't busy - this is so common in the ER.  Take care and I do hope you continue to blog as much as possible.  I have always enjoyed reading you.
