That's the big problem Saul Relative
Almost every college basketball player thinks he's good enough for the NBA, but few are. If they can't play pro ball and they don't get their degree, they're probably screwed.

I've heard that suggestion before growler
and I agree with it in the sense that it would be better than what we have now. But  that would also deprive bonafide students a chance to play. I do think your idea has a much better chance of coming to pass than mine does.

Here's something for you, jollyjeff. Find out how many of those players

are playing professional basketball.  You see, to them the degree means nothing so long as they can play pro ball.  If they're lucky, maybe one or two of them got a chance to play, one of them may still be playing.  One of them might have gotten lucky enough to play in the European leagues.

I love the game, but this is disgusting...

Non College Basketball
JeffOnJocks: They go to college to get a degree in basketball.  Haven't you heard of a BSB?  A Bachelor Of Science in Basketball?  I agree with Growler that student athletes in college should get paid.  How about all students who go to school get paid just not only college basketball players?  If you get higher grades, you earn more money.  The retention rates in all schools throughout the United States will increase astronomically.

Here's a Novel Idea...

Just cut the comedy and pay the players.  No scholarships.  If they want to use the money for tuition so be it.  And when they ask why you are paying them say, "because every time they play in a stadium, tourney or on TV, they are advertising for our school.  And when they are long gone, we will still make money off of them"

A minor league for football and basketball is long overdue.  I care about whether or not these athletes should graduate.  No one believes in education more than me.  But I care just as much whether or not the kid who plays trumpet in the band graduates also.  And if that trumpet player can play for pay, why can't that basketball player whether it be major or minor league?
