Dr Kenneth L Franklin, googled
Yes, you will find the information there, plus some related stuff.  I didn't see a mention anywhere, though, of the lunar time system he came up with, that Helbros made about half a dozen watches for, that were offered in the Nieman Marcus Christmas Catalog one season, for a lot of money, none of which came to my dad! They did give him one, though, which he donated to the Hayden Planetarium.

Yes, I'm sure that the love of astronomy rubbed off on me-- I've always been fascinated by the sky, and 'Sky' is my middle kid's middle name, as well! My initials are CL, also.  What luck, eh?

What's your dad's name? Once I know that, I can dig it out! And I guess that's where you got your moniker...

I'm sure there is-- it made a stir at the time, among astronomers,
and they got a first page mention in the New York Times.

Very interesting! Is there a paper on that?

My dad, a radio astronomer, and his partner at the time,
Bernard Burke, heard an annoying bit of hissy interference on a regular though not constant basis, when they set up their equipment in Virginia (I think) in the mid 1950s.  They decided to track it down and account for it, and thus Jupiter was identified as a source of radio signals.  Not an indication of life or intelligence there, but a product of natural magnetics.

Good morning Rocky,
It was actually my headline, but it doesn't really matter, Corbin and I are actually the same woman anyway...

posted by Nautikos on April 28, 2007 at 7:31 AM | link to this | reply

Good Morning Corbin...your headline really got my attention only because

my first husband's last name was, Popp and unfortunately my name after we got married. I can't count how many times I was called Mrs. "Poop" or got mail for Mrs. Poop. I think I divorced him because I subconsciously no longer wanted his "shitty" name! LOL

But some "muppets" proved it false.....So I guess it was ot all it was "quacked" up to be???

Hmmmmmm???
Did you know there's an urban legend that portends that:  "A duck's quack won't echo!"

Wonder what my car would do if I got all the bird poop off of it at one time.

That's a damn good question! In a sense, the term 'echo' is misleading if we think of it in the conventional sense of sound bouncing off somethin and returning to us. It's more in the sense of an 'echo of a past event', although it is very real and physical. Physicists speak of it as the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). It consists of photonic radiation that permeates the entire observable universe at roughly the same strength throughout, and represents one of the most important pieces of evidence for the Hot Big Bang theory of the beginning of the universe, i.e. all visible and invisible matter and spacetime.
