When I was learning Transcendental Meditation,
and a similar concern was expressed by a student-- "I can't seem to just hear my mantra, my mind keeps going on about other things, too." The teacher suggested, "If you're walking along a road and someone comes up next to you, you don't have to shove them off the road to continue going where you're going."
This kind of meditation doesn't require vacating your mind, either. You just turn inwards and begin to focus on what you find there. It is directed to perceive subtle sensations of energy flow that are always with us, but not always noticed. Then, when you are aware of it, you can be aware of it even when you're not actually in the meditation mode!
I am not familiar with the actual ways and means of Reiki, though I know generally what it is and how it works. I have always assumed that meditation is part of it, but I don't know what form.

Ciel,
Interesting stuff. Two friends of mine have just made Reiki Master. One of them has been telling me about it so I'm learning a lot about this stuff. I know it sounds weird coming from me, but I still have a hard time meditating. I have poor consentration skills and that doesn't help much!

My experience when lighting the wick in the third eye,was an eye opener, what you spoke of on being comfortable in a chakra was also experienced, this light was heavy and attracted to my gut.but that is maybe just my gut instinct.
thankyou,Jeremy
