mysteria, I am working hard on that right now. My poems are too short!

I love poetry readings at coffee shops. I'm glad your daughter writes
the Marine.  Everybody needs letters to look forward to at boot camp.  When I was there I had a buddy whose sadistic friends used to call him stud muffin on the envelopes...yeah, our Gunny really ate tht up at mail call...the funniest part of the day.

kingmi,
as someone has said, one merit of poetry that can't be denied is that it says more in fewer words than prose.

kingmi,

I used to run a coffee house back in the early 90s and we had weekly poetry nights that did quite well.  They were and are still extremely popular with people that are into that.

As far as fear of X-ratedness, establish guidelines, rules of participation.

Good luck!

I helped to organise a weekly Poetry Slam night at a pub a couple of years ago. It was a fun night.

I've been to a few poetry nights and I always enjoyed them. They were well attended too. Good luck.
