The highest ridge on the left side is Hanging Rock, for which a state park is named. It is about thirty miles south, in North Carolina. The ridge on the right is Sauratown Mountain, which overlooks King, NC. Sign in to see full entry.

Luke's Birthday Outing
Luke turned four yesterday. He is on the right in this picture. I had them out in the woods and he perched on this rock and smiled. I started shooting pictures. Sam climbed on and this was the result. Sam will be six in September. Sign in to see full entry.

Hidden Sanctuary
The sound of flowing water. The gentle breeze that courses through the river bottom. The magic of finding a waterfall in a remote place. If heaven be a place other than where I am, then how will I know when I find it? Sign in to see full entry.
Venus' Looking Glass
It stood proudly in the middle of the path, undaunted by those who passed by. To the onlooker, the evolution of the flowers was symbolic. The top of the stems held ripe buds, which seemed to represent a promising future. The opened flowers were the beauty of NOW. And, the withered flowers underneath... Sign in to see full entry.

"Of course," I said, grabbing the camera. This was a teeming farm pond on the back of some property. We had a swell time, despite the... Sign in to see full entry.

Pretty as a Postcard
I'm surprised how well some pictures turn out. I took this one yesterday while we were out walking in Kibler Valley. To me, this is what I think about when the term "Appalachia" comes to mind. Sign in to see full entry.

Good Medicine
Sam, Luke, and I took the afternoon off and visited Kibler Valley. We saw a giant buck going in; he was running along a steep hill above us. His rack was already filled with horns. He ducked away before I could get a good look at him. I thought we might see something else. We did. She was feeding in... Sign in to see full entry.

A Truly Magical Place
A lone granite sign welcomes the weary traveler to a place barely touched by time, but carved out of solid rock by a wending river over thousands of years. Locals know it as a place of refuge and delight, where the sun is only seen for six or seven hours a day as it creeps over the sheltering... Sign in to see full entry.
