No headache? What a Concept!

For the first time in something like 25 years, I awakened New Year’s Day without the slightest vestige of a headache. At least, not one that was self-inflicted. It’s amazing what a little effort toward lifestyle change will do for you. I have been trying to eat better, exercise far more regularly... Sign in to see full entry.

These are the tunes that try our souls...

Free Bird. Sweet Home. Gimme Three Steps. These are tunes that try musicians’ soul. Why I don’t know. There seems to be some federal law that says every bar must have at least one drunk who believes he is the funniest thing on two feet who shouts "Free Bird" and every band must have a majority of... Things that go bump in the night....

I don't know why I'm thinking about Halloween at New Years. Maybe it's because I was chatting with my mom yesterday and her birthday happens to be Oct. 31. Maybe it's because my wife just scared the shit out of me a few minutes ago. Maybe it's because tonight we might get wild and dress up and go... Sign in to see full entry.

A Relxing Game Of Golf

With all the insanity swirling about these days, I think it behooves all of us to do what I'll be doing in about two hours. Forget about it all for a couple of hours and go play golf. I don't know what it is about the game of golf that hooked me. Generally speaking, I don't have the time to go spend... Sign in to see full entry.

Get thee behind me, Satan!!

Why is it that even now, as an early-middle aged adult, I have a difficult time keeping a straight face in church? God must love a fool; after nearly 44 years yukking it up when the congregation and preacher are at their most stone faced, I still haven’t awakened in some fiery pit with a dozen or so... Why, that was just last week...

Ran into an old friend of mine the other day. Aw hell; we’re not that old. Long time friend is better. We grew up together. He was buying chicken to barbecue and beer to help him through Christmas Eve’s requisite torture of putting kids toys together by improvising from utterly incomprehensible... All In The Family...

So my Beloved and I went to a family reunion not too long ago -- the second such ordeal for her within the first three months of our marriage. Nonetheless, she bore it with her usual grace, charm and aplomb, with the result that now both sides of the family would just as soon disown me and adopt... Sign in to see full entry.

It's Not Too Late to Start Shopping for Next Christmas...

At least, that’s what they want you to think. By now, though, it’s too late; you’re sunk. If you didn’t get everything everyone needed by, oh, about last August, it’s over. Christmas has come and gone and you are the Christmas goat. But never fear. You see, if you play your cards right, many items... Sign in to see full entry.

How Do You Argue With Logic Like This?

My good friend KT is enjoying his foray into fatherhood, although he is wondering where some of his son’s logic has originated. The kid is about 4 now, and is all boy -- up to and including his fascination with his, well, his special purpose. On the last day of school before Christmas break, KT went... Confessions of a Dead End Kid...

As Tricky Dick Nixon said right before he got caught with 'em around his ankles, "I am not a crook." And I am not. I may be an opinionated, loud-mouthed pinhead, but I am not a crook. Blame my parents for that. Their inconvenient morality. Their meddlesome supervision and irksome need to know... Sign in to see full entry.
