Existential needlework

God, my poor anonymous ancestress! All she left behind to speak of her youth's glory and her age's wisdom is a patchwork quilt. Is that enough? And will I leave even that much? —Sarah Torribio Sign in to see full entry.

What I’m reading, listening to, etc.

Okay, so I'm reading, among other things, Chuck Klosterman's "Killing Yourself to Live" and I think I hate this author. He's the Spin magazine writer who wrote "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs," or so the book cover says. And this particular book, of which the full title is the self-conscious "Killing... Death wears a mini-skirt

Sometimes she's quite appealing: not a single thought in her head. She doesn't work—things get arranged, and roses get sent to her bed. It's true she doesn't keep well. She tends to inspire abject dread. But her make-up's applied by a master, and she likes when her praises are read. —Sarah Torribio Sign in to see full entry.

Breakable

My mind's so fierce and quick and agile I want to break you because you're fragile Drive you away till I'm all on my own Growl at the door while I gnaw on my bone Maybe this impulse is really a ruse Strike the first blow and avoid being bruised Maybe I'm raising my fists 'cause I'm scared I'm the... Depression (blues in the key of me)

I am footsore—limping and unsightly in one red stiletto and one tennis shoe. Fashion police have declared me a crime scene, and draw a chalk outline around my poor first impression. I looked to quench my thirst with a dipperful of cool water. Instead, my bucket scoops up mud, toadstools, tadpoles,... Sign in to see full entry.

Observation, by me, about Björk

Björk's whole life is a concept album. Sign in to see full entry.

Wow. . .what a line!

I just came across this line by Federico Garcia Lorca and it's one of the most noble lines I've read in ages: “Not for a moment, beautiful aged Walt Whitman, have I failed to see your beard full of butterflies.” —Federico Garcia Lorca Beard full of butterflies! I give homage to the above homage. Sign in to see full entry.

Minneapolis tragedy

Money, money, money goes to war, war war. Meanwhile, New Orleans remains devastated by the wreckage caused by Hurricane Katrina and bridges throughout the United States are rated structurally deficient...the same rating given to the Minneapolis bridge that collapsed yesterday. This is just the tip... Sign in to see full entry.

Sometimes my mind goes blank. . .

and heavy and dull. It's as if my brain were fashioned out of mud or maybe a bunch of melted crayons...colorful but largely useless as an artistic tool. I begin to feel restless and bored. Life seems to have no spiritual core. I have nothing to say and nothing to write. The universe shrinks down to... Sign in to see full entry.

Fall (a song)

You Look at me Like a snake In a tree You're ready to strike And it's alright You Look at me I'm an apple, I am Eve Time to leave Sweet suprise Skipping out of paradise Chorus: We're falling gracefully Shoulders to the storm That would tear us both apart We're falling gracefully Windbreakers to the...
