Why do we wish each other "Merry Christmas"? How did that phrase catch on?

As for me, from whatever I understand, joyous or meaningful Christmas would have been more like it. Is the merriness to do with festivity that somebody with a pprofound message that makes a difference to our lives has come amongst us? Sign in to see full entry.
