I wish

I wish I could become part of the colors of the dark, those bright reds and oranges and greens that in clear nights tint the stars I wish I could go up to play among them so that when you looked up, on a moonless night and they reflected in your eyes I could be there, just another point of light in your long and lonely flight through those dreams that fill your heart me, a part of you, making you smile... Heaven should be like that

I walk through a path of frozen mud, a twisted narrow way I somehow know leads to the top. Along the way, the trees, some dressed in gold, some in red like the color of blood, tremble trying to embrace the frigid soil that shivers under an early frost. There are no sounds, except for a primitive, primal, rhythmic thump that grows louder as I continue to go forth.
