Robert is Coming...

My husband's brother's son arrives this Friday. He is going to be living with us....possibly for a year or more. I wonder what got into us when we decided to offer this to him? We are the type of people who like our space....a lot. And so this is going to be hard. But it was a family decision and even though its not going to be easy, we feel like it was the right one. Robert is driving in with two of his friends. Coming from Colorado. They will arrive this Friday and then the two friends will... Sign in to see full entry.

Time Traveler's Wife

I have been reading "Time Traveler's Wife". How can a book so crazy be so good? I am halfway through it and am getting a bit better grasp on it, but I doubt I will ever totally understand it. But I am captivated by the author's style of writing. The simplicity and emotional detail. The one liners that grab your heart. I know it is a good book when I come away from it dreaming of writing one of my own. Sigh. Sign in to see full entry.

Not much in the Mood

Not much in the mood for writing lately. Some big opportunities (not without sacrifices) that need sorting out, planning for my husband's nephew to come and stay (for an indefinite period of time), trying to stay up on day to day things like schooling, meals, Dr. appointments, laundry. Gosh-the laundry! It is never ending. I am thankful that my husband has been hitting it hard over this weekend. I came home from work to find about 8 loads washed, dried and in the process of being put away. We... Sign in to see full entry.

Busy Times

It has been a couple of weeks of visitors, getting back into the school routine, and the stomach flu. Finally, things are settling down, but I wonder for how long. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. Wondering if we made the right decision in asking my husband's nephew to come and live with us (he will be here October 10th and staying for about a year), knowing that we did, but wishing that we hadn't....a bunch of mixed up emotions about it. He's a good kid. He needs to get out of the situation he's... Sign in to see full entry.

School, School, School

School starts tomorrow for us. The public schools, bright and early. We, in our homeschool, well, maybe around 10 a.m. or whenever we get moving. We have books spread out on the table, pencils, sharpeners, rulers. And we have a list of fun websites to check out. A lot to do....but our most important event, the one we wait all year for, is our tradition of rollerblading around the quiet neighborhood after all of the school buses have come through and picked up all of the other kids and hauled... It Official

It is official that my husband and I are "old". 5 hours at Six Flags totally wiped us out, and today we are feeling sore...a bit like jello, and somewhat shaky. I remember a time when we used to stay for 10 hours at the park, riding rides over and over and over again, not caring if the lines were 2 hours long. We took our two youngest ones (ages 10 and 8) yesterday. They went in all gun-ho, wanting to spend the entire day there. I can not even tell you how relieved my husband and I were when... Total Chaos

Now I know for sure that our new puppy, Russell, is one of the family. He took off out the front door and headed for the street and instead of just YELLING his name, I SHRIEKED his name in my "hysterical mommy voice". And my heart was pounding. So I guess its settled that he's staying.:-) I caught him after he led me on a wild goose chase ( in my pajama bottoms and bare feet) across our yard, into the neighbors' and back again. All the while, I was wondering where my 13 year old daughter, Sarah,... Sign in to see full entry.

Emotions

An emotional day. Well, really an emotional weekend and first part of the week. Some church news that affected us deeply and then had to be worked through. It had my 2 oldest daughters in tears and it had me angry and fearful. A two and a half hour meeting with the wonderful Pastor today has set my soul at rest. In the midst of the church news trauma, my oldest daughter ran a friend's car through the fence (more on that to come in a later blog). And a dear friend with ALS is dying in the nursing... Blog it Rules

I am a bit confused as to how my money is distributed on Blogit. I know I read more then 4 writers this month and yet it looks like my money was only distributed to 4. I don't know.....maybe I'm misunderstanding the rules here, which wouldn't be a first for me ya know? Sign in to see full entry.

Tubs, Cookies, and Friends

The bath tub is still clogged up. My husband is working on it as I write. I have a feeling that when my 8 yr old and her friend were jumping in and out of the shower in their bathing suits this past summer, that a shampoo cap or a toy might have accidentally found its way down the drain and is now lodged there. We have tried a wet vac and a rouder (sp?) and my husband is going to Home Depot in a few minutes to rent a more powerful machine....not sure what it is called. So, we'll see. My son has...
