From Aqua to Eucalyptus

Ok, so Anna's room is not aqua...it is eucalyptus leaf green. That sounds so much prettier, doesn't it? And actually it IS! We put that first roller of paint on the wall and we all said, "Wow!". It's a lot nicer then we even imagined it would be. It is 6 p.m. and we are waiting for everything to dry before putting on the next coat. Outside the sky is dark, dark blue...a little bit gray. Looks like rain is coming. The air is still. The temperature is in the 70's (finally!) and the fresh air... Sign in to see full entry.

My Anna and Aqua

A day of painting my daughter's room today. She chose a light aqua color. Her birthday is tomorrow, but all she wants, she says, is her room painted and put back together by tomorrow night. Sounds reasonable to me. She can sometimes be TOO reasonable actually. Of course I got her other things for her birthday....more "reasonable" gifts in addition to her room. Some clothes, a dock for her Ipod, some stuff for her gardening and cooking. My Anna....she truly is a wise, old soul. She turns 16... Sign in to see full entry.

A Writers Tendency?

I wonder if all writer's have some hermit tendencies. I find that one of my goals for my old age (which is quickly approaching) is to see how many outside activities I can cut out of my schedule. I like to be home. I like the peace. I like the stillness. I like the comfort. I wonder about the rest of you. Is this a writer's personality, or is it just me? Sign in to see full entry.

Exercise

I have beens saying forever that I need to exercise. I just can't seem to get around to it. I was thinking that I need to do it either early in the morning or before I go to bed at night. It just occurred to me this morning that I can do it anytime that is best for me. Geeez, why did it take so long for the light to go on? So, middle of the day, here I come. Ipod, treadmill and laundry combined. I am excited! I think this could really work. Sign in to see full entry.

April

It is April. There is snow. Surprise, surprise. April is just one of those unpredictable months. April 21st, 1993, I was bringing home a new baby wrapped in only a light blanket, a white bonnet on her little head. 8 years later, another April, another new baby. This one coming home clad in snow bunting, knitted hat and all. It's always like that in the Midwest. So you would think I would expect it by now. But every year, there is just that rising hope that this April will be a warm one...a... Sign in to see full entry.

Priceless

I was in a full force cleaning mode tonight. I was actually cleaning the basement and had about finished when my 7 yr old came downstairs with a book. "Mommy," she said, "Can we sit on the couch and read?" How I wanted to say "no". Or "later" (that infamous word)... But something in me made me hesitate...and I said, "Sure, let's go read." And I flipped the lights off, knowing that the cleaning would wait. The look on her face was priceless. We read story after story until she was yawning.... and... Sign in to see full entry.

My Uncle Bob

It has been quite a time of losses. My Uncle died yesterday. My dad's youngest brother...he was 59 years old. It was expected, but nevertheless still hard. Especially with my dad's mother passing just a few weeks ago. I wonder if her passing had anything to do with her finding out that her youngest son had liver cancer. She was in good health, found out on a Wednesday, went and saw her son, and then got sick and was gone the following week. Can people do this at that age? Decide to die? She told... My mom and dad came today for a few hours. Mom mentioned her back being sore. The cancer that she had back in 1999 affects the bone marrow. Her last series of blood work looked a little off. Bone pain is typical when the disease starts to advance. We are hoping it is just regular aging or arthritis, but she is going to call her Oncologist tomorrow. Most likely he will do x-rays or an MRI and we will take it from there. We have had 10 wonderful years that we didn't think we would have. You would... Sign in to see full entry.

My Mom

My parents are coming for a visit today. I am fortunate and blessed. My mom was told 10 years ago that she only had a few months left to live...due to cancer of the bone marrow. And here she is, coming up to my house today to play the Wii with my kids! Amazing. One just never knows. Sign in to see full entry.
