Writing letters to the editor, then and now

Back in my F.E.R.C. days, with their offices at 825 North Capitol Street, about a block or so from the main post office in D.C., I could dash off a letter to the editor on a typewriter there and have it in the mail to The Washington Post before you could say Bob's your uncle, beating most people...
